( April 29, 2006 ) - International Contortion Convention 2006 news
Dear Friends,

Thank you all for the huge interest you have been showing in our ICC 2006 Contortion Convention Project.

I am so happy to see that we are growing into a bigger community with each convention we put onto the road. One thing I enjoy most is the incredible interest of many young artists and future artists who are expressing their keen wish to perform in Vegas at our event. This is something we have been wanting so hard ever since we started our first convention: To promote the art of contortion and to give the wonderful potential out there the possibility to grow.

I will - from now on - introduce these young talents with each update we do. (Just a little note for those who are not covered in this update yet : be sure - we will present each and every one of you sooner or later !)

Shelly

Ever since our first International Contortion Convention in Dresden in 1998, we have had the pleasure to be supported - in every possible way - by David Fox, a very well known and highly respected personality in our community.
David has not only contributed and helped us in our endeavor  to make contortion more popular and respected internationally, he has also sacrificed a lot of personal time and money to help our ‘then baby’ –the first ICCs- grow into what  they are now.
One little example for this, are the beautiful medals we were able to present to our performers after the last ICC Event in 2003. They were designed and fully sponsored by David! Thank you MILLIONS for that again, David! These medals are a very treasured memorabilia, which our ICC 2003 artists are proud to own now.

And - of course - we had the great opportunity to see some of Davids’ students perform at the ICC 1998 and 2003. But - and I don’t want to say too much - this year David will present a very special young lady - his new student Shelly.

Shelly was introduced to David in November of the last year by Tige Young (owner of the famous www.contortionhomepage.com). He told David about a young lady with a rhythmic gymnastics background who was looking for some advanced contortion training. David was curious to take a look because he already saw some photos of Shelly on the net. Soon they met and Shelly demonstrated David her impressive abilities.
As David puts it : only very few of his students were as advanced as Shelly. She has a long term experience in artistic gymnastics, in rhythmic gymnastics (elite level) and even in contortion performance.

She is performing occasionally in the Washington DC area with the routine that she created herself at different important events. She performed at Kennedy Art Center and MCI Arena in Washington DC. Recently she performed her new routine that David and her created together with big success.

Quote David: ”Shelly is immensely talented in my view and I am glad that I have a privilege to help her enhancing her acrobatics and contortion skill. I have no doubts that her performance at ICC2006 will be noticed and her talents will berecognized."

I´ll be there : Justin "ScareCrow"

Justin

His stage name is  ScareCrow. Justin comes from Portsmouth, VA . He is 18 years old. With Justins Mum being in the Navy, Justin has travelled and lived in many places in the States and has seen a lot of countries out the US, such as Russia, Germany, France, Canada, and Costa Rica.

He and his Mum were stationed in Hawaii when he met a friend who introduced him to the jitter ring (Gyro Ring Pro). Justin soon exceeded his friend's level with the jitter ring (which seems to possess some juggling attributes.
Once, Justins Mum June casually noticed him putting his feet behind his neck.  She was immediately enthralled by this and soon found out what else he could do trying learn everything I they could about his contortionism.
Justin said that he knew about his skill many years ago.  He was watching a television show in which someone was contorting, and realized that he could do that too.  Yet, he figured it was normal (everyone else could do this) because it was so easy for him ... This was the beginning of it all ...

He has performed in Hawaii, YBor City, FL, and Clearwater, FL.

Whilst we go along, we will introduce more young artists, who will perform at the Convention, such as...

Jessi Weiland, Morgan, Erica Bernardi and Stephanie (left to right)

Contortion Bazaar

This years Convention will bring a lot of ‘living’ activity. Our space allows us  this time to have numerous happenings taking place at one time at one location.
Imagine yourself at a bazaar, where you have lots of things to chose from. Your in the midst of a little ‘contortion market’ with various possibilities and stands, where you can spend your own time and as long as  you like.

Activities throughout the Contortion Market are i.e.:

A vivid and active side stage with upcoming artists, presenting their talent several times during the days of the ICC. This will give them the experience and confidence to work life and ad coram publicum.

Choreography workshops for our upcoming performers and those, who wish to add some more choreographic elements to their routine.

Makeup artists and costume designers. These workshops will be of special interest to our young attendees, who are considering to start a professional contortion career.

As in the past, we will also have some question and answer boards with your favorite artists.
