( March 14, 2011 ) - International Contortion Convention 2011 ---- Next post

After our very successful and most enjoyable convention in 2009 where we primarily focused on young talents and students up to the age of 16 years, we decided to have another Contortion Convention which will include both talents and professional artists again.

This way we will be able to cover the need for our young people to find a platform to develop their skills with the workshops and other activities we will have, but at the same time we will be able to present some fantastic and already professional contortionists and their skills to the public.

Nina Burri

As from the very beginning back in 1998 our goal has been to promote the art of contortion and to give all those who love this art a home which provides all the many possibilities and aspects a community and home should give. We still see ourselves as a growing family of people who over the years are joining and or coming home to our International “ICC” Event. Some like to learn more about the art. Some like to come and see all the spectacles around the event. Some like to present themselves, their shows and the hard work they put into their fascination and love for the art.

And as it seems all these different motives to participate work together real well. Young former talents and starters are now working successfully in different shows all over the globe. Young students get the chance to work with some of the most internationally renown trainers and to meet with those who just started the same way they did and are now there where they always wanted to be: Up there on a stage. How encouraging !

Those artists who will come and present their shows will again have a chance to meet with bookers and agents.

Cirque du Soleil has again shown great interest in attending the convention and we are again expecting people from the media. As we get closer to the event we will be able to supply you with more detailed information on this.

Our concept for this year is as follows :

2 days workshops and shows for our younger participants.

1 and 1/2 days meetings, photo-workshops, question and answer boards and a gala show with professional contortionists.

So some of the activities will be overlapping and everyone can choose where they want to be.

From now on, we will provide you with regular updates. But here are already some highlights we can tell you about :

For the big community of fans of Julia aka ZLATA: Yes, she will be there ! We will be offering photo sessions and separate workshops with Julia.

Another real highlight :

Our special friend and great coach Gerd Rasquin will be holding workshops again ! We are also expecting David Fox , another amazing coach and friend again.

More details on workshops, coaches and other activities will be covered in the next website updates.
