Gerd
Rasquin
Gerd
Rasquin (65) started his activities in 1965, founding the first
german children's circus in Hamburg. Fascinated by artistic gymnastics in
the late '60s he started to work with a group of young girls. What
made Rasquins girls different was their flexibility.
After the magazine "International Gymnast" published
photos of them, he was invited to the US by three clubs. In 1976 and 1978
his team competed in New York, Washington, Grand Rapids and Detroit.
In 1982 his extreme bender Britta Fröbisch (9) was too
young to compete at nationals, although she could do double twisting
somersaults, double backs, giants or stalder. Rasquin decided to become
additional active in
sportsacrobatics to give his little girl a chance. Unknown Britta surprised
the judges at her first nationals and became champion, the youngest one in
german history !
Over the years the students of the 2,03 m tall coach took
home 65 national titles in gymnastics and sportsacrobatics. His most
successful student was Suk-ching Li from a chinese family, who became 14
times german champion ! --Time for Rasquin to try new things.
In 1985 he introduced his super flexible girls "Britta &
Ivanka" at the festival "Cirque de Demain" in Paris, and in 1999 he was
invited with his "Serpent Girls" to Monaco. The years between those famous
places where filled with various handbalancing and contortion acts, gaining
three gold, three silver and five bronce medals at european and world circus
festivals. Gerd Rasquin did everything without taking money from his
students. As a professional school teacher his "late afternoon activities"
were only a hobby...
